General Information about the Lab
AMNT Lab is primarily focused on the drug discovery and therapeutics. Both medicinal plants and microorganisms are used as source of bioactive molecules which are further screened for possible antibacterial, antifungal, antidiabetic, antioxidant, antiinflammatory and other potential activities. Actinomycetes from diverse habitat, including endophytic isolates constitute the main microbial source for the discovery of the therapeutic molecules. Pesticide degradation and biosurfactant aspects are also targeted in case of actinomycetes. Research is also focused on developing nano-formulations of microorganism-derived compounds with the aim of finding new potential therapeutics. Besides, nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems for novel therapeutics are also being explored to overcome challenges like poor bioavailability, in vivo stability, solubility, intestinal absorption and sustained and targeted delivery to site of action.
