Introduction |
Department has 8 numbers of state-of the-art laboratories in the various fields of
Mechanical Engineering, such as Engineering Workshop, Engineering Graphics lab, CAD/CAM lab, Applied Mechanics lab, Basic of Electrical Engineering lab,
Automobile Engineering lab, Theory of Machines lab, Thermal Engineering lab,
Advanced Material Research lab and Electric Vehicle Technology lab. |
Engineering Workshop |
The workshop contains all necessary tools and equipment required for manufacturing any product. The workshop has five shops: fitting shop, welding shop, sheet metal working shop, foundry shop and machine shop. These shops help the students to learn various manufacturing methods in mechanical engineering. The physical products can be manufactured in this lab.
Engineering Graphics Lab |
The lab is equipped with drawing facilities to learn engineering graphics. The technical ideas are first drafted in this lab for representation of the idea and then finally the proof design is sent for manufacturing. The knowledge in this lab makes the student familiar with various Indian and International standards of dimension and geometry and rules for designing any product. The designs are basically 2D design which are the source of information for further 3D design of the idea of technology. |
CAD/CAM Lab |
The lab is equipped with 30 latest all-in-one desktops having Intel i7-processors that can handle the design, modelling and analysis software for computer-based 3D design and manufacturing of any product. The desktop PCs have been installed with licensed versions of software such as ANSYS, Latest version of MATLAB, MS Office, etc. to acquaint the students with computer-aided design and analysis.
Theory of Machines Lab |
The theory of machines lab is equipped with various test rigs to understand the function of a mechanism in common machine tools, to construct velocity and acceleration diagram in planar mechanisms, to analyse the inertia forces involved in an internal combustion engine, to determine the various possible motions between cam-follower and gears assemblies and to understand and apply the concept of free and forced vibration in determination critical or whirling speed of shaft. This lab has inhouse universal vibration apparatus, motorized gyroscope, various governors, journal bearing test rig, coroillis acceleration of component test rig, whirling of shaft apparatus etc. to perform various experiments.
Applied Mechanics Lab |
This lab is made with the intention of enabling the student to learn and understand various theories of Engineering Mechanics and hands on practice to prove those theories. There are various test equipment to learn mechanical advantage, gear laws, equilibrium conditions of forces and momentum for structure, forces on truss, law of friction, law of polygon, screw jack etc which have application in every field of Mechanical Engineering.
Basic Electrical Engineering Lab |
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has specialized undergraduate course on Electric Vehicles. So, to make students familiarize with basic laws of electrical engineering and various theorem, the lab has been designed.
Automobile Engineering Lab |
The Automobile Engineering Lab has various parts of vehicle for their hands on practice to learn and understand the assembly of parts in Automobiles. It has engine parts, air-conditioning parts, power train system, chassis, suspension etc. for the demonstration to the students.
Thermal Engineering Lab |
This lab is equipped with various test rigs to demonstrate laws of thermodynamics and concept of heat transfer, refrigeration, and air-conditioning. The major list of experiments that can be performed in this labs: find the thermal conductivity of liquid by guarded hot plate method, determine the thermal conductivity of the metal rod, calculate the Stefan Boltzmann constant, calculate the thermal conductivity of insulating power, determine the emissivity of the gray surface, determine the overall heat transfer coefficient in finned tube heat exchanger, find out heat transfer coefficient and heat transfer rate from vertical cylinder in natural convection and find out total thermal resistance and total thermal conductivity of composite walls.
Advanced Material Research Lab |
The Department of Mechanical Engineering (Electric Vehicle) also has established Advanced Material Research Lab for UG lab demonstration and research purpose. The lab has dedicated equipment to synthesis nanoparticles, sample preparation for various mechanical testing as per international standards, preparation of composite materials, metallurgical study etc. The list of equipment in this lab is vacuum oven, hot air oven, muffle furnace, twin belt grinder, probe ultrasonicator, bath sonicator, laboratory centrifuge, high accuracy weighing balance, magnetic stirrer, rotary pump etc. |
