DEPARTMENT OF GEO-INFORMATICS

Geo-informatics is an interdisciplinary department which combines the use of geospatial data with information science and technology. It offers a mixture of analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills in a field which is immensely important in today's data-driven world. It involves the use of various tools and techniques to gather, store, manipulate, analyze, and visualize geospatial data for a wide range of applications. The department finds its importance in various fields such as defence technology, urban planning, disaster mitigation, environmental management, natural resource exploration, transportation, planetary science and many more. With the ongoing technological advancements, the subject Geo-informatics is also evolving and is used for solving real world problems, majorly with the help of remote sensing. At NSUT, Geo-informatics is pursued under the able guidance of faculty of Information Technology and Civil Engineering. The course majorly provides exposure to subjects of Information Technology and Civil Engineering which is used for data acquisition and management.

Courses Offered

The Department of Geo-informatics presently offers a four year B.Tech. Degree program in Geo-informatics with intake of 60 students. Besides the UG degree programs, a Ph.D. degree program is also run by the department. In order to keep pace with the current technological advancements, the UG curriculum has been recently modified and updated to allow students to stay abreast of the latest happening as well as to cater to their specific interests for specialization through electives.
